41st Annual Tuna Drive for Haiti

This year marks the 41st year of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish helping to feed the people of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Working with our friends at the Haitian Health Foundation in Norwich CT may we continue this great ministry for years to come.

Haiti has seen some horrific events in recent history, including two earthquakes, one that devastated its capital, Port-au-Prince, and more recently one that crushed Jeremie, our sponsored city. Jeremie, located in the southwest corner of Haiti, was also hit by a very strong hurricane just a couple of years ago.

Since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, the country has been in political turmoil, there has been a collapse of the military and police, and gang rule prevails in the streets. Approximately 80% of the capital city is under gang control. Looting at the main port has depleted essential supplies, worsening the food insecurity crisis. This has left the country in economic collapse, run-away inflation, and vast poverty. As a result, life has been extremely difficult for the people of Haiti. Hunger and malnutrition are rampant. Over 2 million people, nearly half the Haitian population, face emergency levels of hunger. As most of you are aware, we have had a yearly tuna collection for Jeremie. This year it will again be hosted by Knights of Columbus Campbell Council #573

Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 9 to 12, at Saint Bridget School’s garage.

We still collect cans of tuna in oil, but donations of cash or checks payable to Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish will help the Haitian Health Foundation to more securely deliver food to the people of Haiti.

Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish has been extremely supportive in past years. You have the gratitude of the Haitian Health Foundation and the people of Haiti. God Bless You.

Reminder: Knights of Columbus Council #573 also collects used winter coats, prescription eyeglasses, worn American flags, and unwanted religious items at ALL food drives at this location.
